When you actively start a monitoring session, we may collect:

• Audio recordings

Important: Monitoring and recording only occur when you intentionally initiate a session. Vigil does not continuously record or track you in the background. Recording is initiated by the user in situations where they believe their safety may be at risk. This is intended to support personal safety and incident documentation. Vigil does not record audio unless a session is actively started by the user.

HOW YOUR DATA IS USED

We use your data only to:

• Provide monitoring and safety features
• Process and structure incident data

We do NOT sell your personal data.

USER CONTROL

You remain in control of your data at all times.

• You decide when monitoring starts
• You decide when SOS is triggered
• You choose your trusted contacts
• You decide what to share and with whom

Vigil does not independently initiate monitoring, recording, or sharing.

DATA SHARING

Vigil does not share your data except:

• With trusted contacts you explicitly designate
• When required by law or legal obligation

All sharing is user-initiated or legally required.

DATA STORAGE AND RETENTION

• Incident data is stored according to retention settings
• Standard retention: 90 days
• Extended retention (if applicable): up to 180 days

You may delete your data at any time.
We may retain limited data where required for legal or security purposes.

CONSENT AND PERMISSIONS

Vigil requires your permission to access certain device features, including:

• Microphone (for recording during sessions)
• Location (if enabled)
• Notifications

You may control or revoke these permissions at any time through your device settings.
Disabling permissions may limit functionality.

SECURITY

We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data, including:

• Encryption (where applicable)

• Secure processing environments

However, no system is completely secure.

AI PROCESSING

Vigil uses AI to assist in structuring incident data.

AI outputs are:

• Assistive only
• Generated from recorded inputs
• Not definitive, authoritative, or guaranteed to be accurate

Users are responsible for reviewing all outputs. AI processing is applied only to user-initiated recordings and does not operate continuously or independently.

INTERNATIONAL USE

If you access Vigil outside the UK, your data may be processed in jurisdictions with different data protection laws.

Under applicable data protection laws, you may:
